Counselling for adults and young people

by Patricia Dolman

Talking to someone in confidence

Counselling can help in times of crisis, or when dealing with difficult experiences or personal issues, e.g. Abuse, Anxiety, Bereavement, Confidence and self-esteem, Depression, Relationships, Sexuality, Stress, Trauma, etc.

  • Counselling involves an agreement whereby a Counsellor / Practitioner meets with a Client to explore issues, or areas of distress, that a client may be experiencing.
  • Counselling generally involves the client talking through their problems and the Counsellor listening, and reflecting back on what's being said.
  • Counselling can help at times of distress, or when dealing with difficult experiences or personal issues
  • Counselling is undertaken in a setting that provides a safe and confidential space to explore issues as they arise.
  • I offer weekly sessions, lasting 50 minutes. I can offer short or long term Counselling

How Counselling can help

  • A Counsellor is someone who is trained to listen and respond affectively.
  • Often time spent talking to a Counsellor can help you feel valued and accepted;
  • it can also assist you in exploring your feelings.
  • Counselling can help you make sense of confusing feelings, or difficult and stressful situations.

This is done in a safe, non-threatening, and non-judgemental way!

Will you give me advice?

Counselling may involve guidance and you will be supported in finding a way forward that best suits you and your situation.

Why Counselling?

People seek Counselling for many reasons and at different stages in their lives, for example:

  • at times of personal crisis or stress
  • when faced with major decisions
  • following a significant loss or period of change.

Someone may also want assistance with:

  • relationship issues
  • personal or spiritual growth and development
  • addressing difficult experiences that have happened in the past.

My theoretical approach is person-centred:

my approach; Is integrative: Person centred and Psychodynamic. As well aslo open ended longer term therapy, I also work in brief solution focused ways infomed by Cognitive Behavioural therapy.

I also specialise in work based and organisational issues.
