Top Tips for Getting Back Into the Swing of Work after a Holiday

We all need a holiday from time to time to help us to relax and re-charge our batteries. However, sometimes it can be difficult to get back into the swing of work when you have been away for a week or so. It can be easy to let bad habits build back up and for the stresses of the workplace to take their toll again – with this in mind, we’ve put together some of our top tips to help you get back into the swing of work after a holiday and stay energised.

To ensure that you are ready for a day’s work, always allow for a good night’s sleep. When it comes to sleep, it’s not just the quantity that matters, but also the quality of sleep. There are a number of things that you can do to help improve your quality of sleep:

  • Try to go to sleep and get up at the same time every day and avoid sleeping in, even on the weekends. The more your sleep schedule differs, the more likely you are to suffer from jetlag like symptoms.
  • Control your exposure to light by spending more time outside during the day, and make sure your room is dark at night when you sleep.
  • Make sure you have clean sheets for comfort and hygiene, helping you to wake up feeling refreshed.

Cranial osteopathy and sleep therapy can both be effective methods for helping you to relax and sleep better and get over problems with insomnia.

Try to keep your diet clean, eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and drinking lots of water. This helps us to keep our energy levels high and fight against the post-holiday blues. Studies show that eating a better diet is linked to us having better moods, as well as helping us to sleep better. At Fiona Passey Osteopaths, our Naturopathy team can advise you on your diet to help you to feel more energised.

Match work to your body’s natural rhythms

At work, try to tackle your most challenging tasks at the times when you are likely to be at your best. For example, if you are a morning person who is most productive early on in the day, try to be productive on a challenge that requires a lot of thought or creativity, rather than going through your emails. If you feel like you are on your best form in the afternoon, why not try and organise important meetings later in the day rather than in the morning?

Spend plenty of time with your family and friends

Make sure you spend your evenings with close friends and family. This way you have something to look forward to at the end of the working day; you can share pictures or stories from your holiday, talking about where you went and the experiences you had. Happy memories give us pleasure and help to combat the post-holiday slump.
