How To Effectively Treat Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprains are relatively common and usually involve the muscles and ligaments on either or both sides of the ankle joint. In a minor sprain they are usually treated with rest, ice, compression and elevation and normally improve within 1-3 weeks.

If, however, the sprain is more severe (2nd or 3rd degree) it can take up to 6/8 weeks.

If the pain and weaknesses persists beyond this time it is worth getting a second opinion and treatment.

At Fiona Passey Osteopaths Rhys Bastable and Julien Prosnier use western acupuncture / dry needling to treat ankle sprains and will look at the reasons for why it may have occurred. They have found western acupuncture to be extremely beneficial in reducing the pain, thereby speeding up the healing process.

They are also able to provide rehabilitation exercises to strengthen the ankle joint and lower limb to prevent it from reoccurring.
